President and CEO
Larry S. Chapman, MPH, currently serves as President and CEO of Chapman Institute, where he provides thought leadership on integrating health cost management; wellness interventions, plan design, incentive systems, and organized prevention programming for worksite, managed care and community-based populations. The Chapman Institute also provides the WellCert Certification Program for Corporate Wellness practitioners. Prior to his current positions he was a Senior Vice President for WebMD for 3+ years and prior to that, co-founder and Chairman of Summex Health Management, an industry leader in health management services for the employer and health plan communities, which was acquired by WebMD in 2006. Larry served until recently as an editor of the American Journal of Health Promotion and the Editor of The Art of Health Promotion section of the Journal. Larry has published over 200 articles and columns and 13 books on the topics of wellness, health cost management and health and productivity management. He has been a consultant to the National Institutes of Health, the Center for Disease Control, the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, the Department of Veteran's Affairs and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
He is a frequent keynote speaker and has given over 3,500 presentations and workshops on employee health, wellness and healthcare cost management. Larry earned his master's degree in Medical Care Organization from the University of Michigan, School of Public Health. He also holds degrees in Environmental Health and Medical Technology. As a consultant in the field of wellness and health promotion for more than 40 years, his clients have included more than 1,000 public and private sector organizations, including a majority of the Fortune 100 companies. Larry has also received numerous professional rewards including a Lifetime Service Award from the Association of Worksite Health Promotion and in 2008 he received the first ever Halbert L. Dunn Lifetime Wellness Achievement Award from the National Wellness Institute. Larry has also developed the WellCert program, a 4 level professional certification program for Corporate Wellness practitioners. This national certification program has trained more than 5.000 individuals. Each level of certification requires two full days of training, four small group case exercises and successful completion of a Final Exam. Each level of certification is organized around twelve (12) key program management skills. The first level of certification training, and the most popular, is for Certified Wellness Program Coordinators (CWPC) and is delivered online, virtually and onsite.
